ESPN analyst jokes about being threatened by NFL GM’s ‘goons’

Former NFL cornerback-turned-ESPN analyst Domonique Foxworth is no stranger to ruffling feathers with the opinionated analysis he’s shared on the many ESPN radio shows he appears on regularly like “First Take” and “Get Up.”

However, the former third-round pick of the Denver Broncos recently shared a story during an appearance on the “Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz” of when he was threatened by some associates of former New York Giants general manager David Gettleman.

“Somebody in this thick, sounded like a stereotypical New York accent answered the phone and started threatening me,” Foxworth joked. “I’m not trying to act like I’m some tough, scary guy, but you know what is not going to scare me? A phone call. I just kept talking to the guy and kept him on the line as long as possible until he ran out of gas. But he was like, ‘Hey look, you’re not going to talk bad about my guy and you’re going to respect New York,’ and he was just threatening and threatening.”

Foxworth later clarified that he was being facetious and he didn’t really believe Gettleman put someone up to calling and threatening him and that it was more likely an overly protective friend or family member of Gettleman’s.

Full details of the phone call are in the video below.

A three-time Super Bowl champion — two with the Giants and one with the Denver Broncos — Gettleman served as GM of the Carolina Panthers from 2013-17 before taking the same position with the Giants from 2018 until his retirement in 2021.

He had a 70-74-1 record as a GM with four playoff appearances, three division titles and one Super Bowl appearance — all coming with the Panthers.
