Just after one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers, former Arizona Cardinals star Patrick Peterson has become a free agent.

On Friday morning, multiple NFL insiders including ESPN’s Adam Schefter revealed that the Steelers have released Peterson.

“Steelers are releasing eight-time Pro-Bowl CB Patrick Peterson, per sources,” Schefter said.

The three-time All-Pro was the fifth-overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft by the Cardinals.

Peterson would start all 16 games across nine campaigns minus 2019. As a Cardinal, Peterson registered 28 interceptions for 251 yards, scored a return touchdown, forced two fumbles, two sacks and a combined total of 499 tackles.

As a whole, the Florida native started in all 154 games available in Arizona before signing a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings on March 17, 2021. He signed an additional one-year deal in the 2022 offseason.

For two seasons with Minnesota, the 33-year-old played and started 30 games. Peterson collected 111 tackles, six interceptions, defended 20 passes and scored a touchdown.

Then on March 16, 2023, he signed a two-year, $14 million deal with the Steelers. He started 16-of-17 games while grabbing two interceptions and 42 tackles last year.

But as his stint in Pittsburgh ended abruptly, Peterson will look for another opportunity in the NFL.

With him free to speak and sign with another team for 2024, there is a chance that he could return to Arizona, though it is unlikely.
