Ex-NFL star pleads for Chiefs to swing DeAndre Hopkins trade at all costs

Eight games into the regular season, it's become abundantly clear that the Kansas City Chiefs have a wide receiver problem.

With Tuesday's NFL trade deadline looming, former Dallas Cowboys star Dez Bryant is adamant the Chiefs address that issue by striking a trade with the Tennessee Titans for five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins.

Hopkins, 31, turned back the clock this past Sunday with a vintage performance against the Atlanta Falcons. Hopkins hauled in four of his six targets for 128 yards and three touchdowns. The three-time First-Team All-Pro selection has now recorded 125-plus yards receiving in two of his last three games.

Excluding Rashee Rice, all Chiefs wideouts have combined for a total of three receiving touchdowns this season. Kadarius Toney, who was penciled in as the team's No. 1 receiver entering the year, has failed to top 35 yards receiving in any game this year.

Rice and Toney each rank within the top 15 for dropped passes this season, per Fantasy Pros. Skyy Moore, who has disappointed with just 14 receptions this season, had a crucial fourth-down drop in Kansas City's upset loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Expecting Hopkins to continue to stack performances like his recent outing is unrealistic. In fact, it was only the second three-touchdown game of his career. Nevertheless, Hopkins would immediately add juice to Kansas City's offense and supply Patrick Mahomes with a true outside weapon — something that has alluded him since the team traded Tyreek Hill after the 2021 season.

Hopkins' 504 receiving yards this year are just 118 yards fewer than the 622 combined yards that Rice and Justin Watson — Kansas City's top two leading wide receivers — have accounted for.
