Starting the week at approximately $40 million above the salary cap, the Buffalo Bills are doing their best to shed salary before the start of free agency on March 13.

On Wednesday, the Bills initiated a comprehensive roster restructuring, cutting ties with five players, notably All-Pro defensive backs Tre’Davious White and Jordan Poyer, in a flurry of moves that spared few from potential release.

Former Rams players Taylor Rapp and David Edwards secured contract extensions with the Bills amidst the influx of roster moves. Both are pending free agents, indicating their positive impact since joining the team.

The Bills, of course, cut star safety Jordan Poyer on Wednesday, paving the way for Rapp to earn his three-year, 14.5 million extension.

Last season, Rapp had one interception and made 50 tackles across four games, his lowest snap count since 2020. Despite fewer defensive snaps, he logged a career-high 191 special teams snaps to find his way onto the field.

Guard David Edwards also joined Buffalo from L.A. last year in free agency and received a two-year, $6 million extension on Wednesday.

Although he originally signed as a utility backup rather than a starter, like Rapp, Edwards proved his value last season, resulting in the Bills' investment in his future.

As a fifth-round pick in 2019, Edwards didn't start any games for the Bills last season but did see action on 148 snaps as a reserve and 80 on special teams.

With both Rapp and Edwards receiving contract extensions, they position themselves as valuable assets to the Bills' future.
