The Falcons are still tweaking the roster in the middle of the offseason. The club announced a free agent signing of Carlos Davis that bolsters the defensive line, as well as a corresponding move of releasing Jalen Dalton.
Davis is a 6-foot-2, 320-pound former Steelers seventh-round pick out of Nebraska. He’s only recorded 12 career tackles, three for losses, and one sack, but still provides more competition for what has become the best unit on the team.
Carlos Davis only played 12 games across three seasons in Pittsburgh, so his ceiling is likely as a depth piece, but it will be a challenging task just to make this roster, let alone earn some playing time.
Grady Jarrett, Calais Campbell, David Onyemata, Ta’Quon Graham, and Zach Harrison are likely locked in for a spot, but there will be a slew of defenders up for only a couple of spots. Davis will compete with Eddie Goldman, Timothy Horne, Joe Gaziano, Ikenna Enechkwu, and LaCale London.
The Falcons defensive line has undergone a complete overhaul. It went from the worst unit on the team in 2022 to the best in 2023. Starters from last year will now assume rotational roles and in some cases, won’t even make the roster. That’s a drastic improvement.
