According to Ian Rapport, defensive tackle Eddie Goldman is coming out of retirement (again) and rejoining the Atlanta Falcons.
Goldman’s more of a traditional nose tackle that experienced a lot of success in his first five years in the league with the Chicago Bears. He’s a run stuffing specialist with the ability to get after the quarterback from time to time, recording 13.0 career sacks.
If the name sounds familiar, it’s because this isn’t his first time with the Falcons. The team signed him ahead of the 2022 season, only for him to retire a couple of weeks later. Eddie Goldman then returned to camp last year, only to leave the squad again.
Perhaps a third time is a charm. The Falcons could certainly use the depth across the defensive line. Although, the interior isn’t really the issue. Grady Jarrett and David Onyemata form one of the most menacing duos in football. The Falcons also re-signed Kentavius Street earlier in the offseason. Goldman is a welcomed addition if he ends up actually playing this year, but for this defensive line to be a formidable unit, they have to add several more bodies on the EDGE.
