Unfortunately, PSLs (personal seat licenses) are becoming a common barrier for fans hoping to acquire season tickets in these new flashy arenas. That has been the case in Atlanta ever since Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built. However, according to the AJC, 750 lucky Falcons fans will be able to buy season tickets this upcoming season without purchasing a PSL beforehand.
This section, which will be located in the lower-level corner of the end zone, will be dedicated to “super fans” as the organization attempts to bring much more energy to the stadium, kind of like you might see at Atlanta United games. It will be general admission, meaning no assigned seating, and they are expected to be sold for $1,000 — $100 for each home game. They are not planning to sell these tickets individually.
The PSL model is common among teams in the NFL these days; however, there’s no disputing it has severely affected the atmosphere at Falcons games since moving to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Even when Atlanta had a playoff caliber team in 2017, the stadium often looked less than half-full and was littered with opposing fans.
From an Atlanta fans’ perspective, the atmosphere has been pathetic, and frankly, the limited fans allowed this year because of COVID almost felt normal for The Benz. Hopefully, this new section does bring some energy to the stadium, and if it works, perhaps the Falcons will continue to move away from PSLs in an attempt to regain a home-field advantage.
