The Falcons are still tweaking the roster as we inch closer to training camp. The team officially announced the signing of former Titans wide receiver Cameron Batson on Thursday, but in a corresponding move to open up a spot for him on the 90-man roster, the Falcons released former Bears offensive lineman Rashaad Coward.

Coward spent time with the Steelers and Jaguars last offseason before signing a reserve/future contract with Atlanta in January. He only played in four games for Pittsburgh but didn’t see the field during his brief stint in Jacksonville.

Prior to those stops, Coward played in 30 games and started 15 of them over three seasons with the Bears to begin his career. After entering the league as a defensive lineman, Chicago’s coaching staff transitioned him to the other side of the ball following his rookie year.

Obviously, he was always going to be a fringe roster guy, but it is pretty revealing of the Falcons front office that three-quarters of every free agent they bring in either played in Tennessee or Chicago. Look for that trend to continue.
