The Falcons head coaching search is in full swing with more than a dozen candidates having already interviewed and half of which have second ones scheduled or completed.

Ben Johnson and Bobby Slowik, two bright offensive minds, met virtually over the weekend. Mike Vrabel is scheduled to meet with the Falcons this week. Two intriguing defensive minds, Anthony Weaver and Mike Macdonald, are set to meet for the second time sometime this week.

Bill Belichick, who many consider to be the frontrunner for Atlanta’s vacancy, completed his second interview already. Belichick’s case is by far the most interesting because by all accounts, at least publicly, the Falcons are the only team interested in him. Why is that? On the other hand, Mike Florio seems adamant that isn’t the case. It’s fair to wonder what really is going on behind the scenes.

Personally, I prefer more than a handful of other candidates over Belichick. All of the aforementioned interviewees would be preferred over the former Patriots head coach, but one I haven’t mentioned that is drawing a lot of interest from the Falcons is Jim Harbaugh, according to Adam Schefter.

Harbaugh and Belichick are the only coaches to interview in person, and while the latter has already completed his second interview, the former has his scheduled.

As of right now, the Chargers and Michigan are the Falcons’ stiffest competition for the brother of John Harbaugh. Jim, unlike his Ravens’ head coach brother, cut his teeth on the offensive side of the ball and is a quarterback whisperer of sorts.

His resume is more impressive than most candidates in this hiring cycle but is a decade younger than Belichick. The Falcons would be fools to not bring Jim Harbaugh to Atlanta if he preferred it over Los Angeles and Ann Arbor.
