Koo may have redeemed himself in 2019, but that may not be enough for the Falcons. Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Younghoe Koo rebounded in a big way in 2019, but the Atlanta Falcons still don’t sound entirely convinced that he is their guy.

Speaking with the media on Tuesday, Falcons head coach Dan Quinn said that the team was looking to use their 90th and final roster spot to bring in another kicker to compete with Koo.

“We’re still definitely considering adding a kicker into that spot,” said Quinn, per William McFadden of the team’s site. “Like most things you can imagine some of those decisions involve workouts and things that aren’t at the space. We were pretty intentional … about not adding all the way up to 90 [players] on the day after [the NFL Draft]. You have some flexibility if opportunities came up post-draft to add guys to the team. But, yeah, that’s definitely still something that we’re looking into.”

Koo, 25, had an excellent 2019 season with the Falcons after flaming out with the Los Angeles Chargers as a rookie and then having to play in the AAF. He took over in Atlanta after veteran kicker Matt Bryant was released and went 23-for-26 on field goals and 15-for-16 on extra points in just eight games.

The Falcons looking to sign another kicker may be more due diligence than a sign that Koo’s grasp on the starting job is tenuous, so hopefully the memes don’t have to start up again.
