Tom Herman's Florida Atlantic Owls picked up their second victory of the season on Saturday when they edged out Tulsa 20-17. After dropping three straight games, the Owls beat their first FBS opponent of the year and earned their first conference win as a member of the American Athletic Conference.
Navy's First AAC Win Under Brian Newberry
On his third attempt, new Navy head coach Brian Newberry earned his first AAC win when his Midshipmen outlasted North Texas in a 27-24 battle on Saturday.
The Midshipmen play at 1-4 Charlotte this weekend.
UAB's First AAC Win
UAB were in control from the second quarter in a 56-35 victory over USF this past weekend. The Blazers racked up 608 yards of offense and forced three turnovers on defense. That led to UAB's first conference win in the AAC and also the first win over an FBS team for Trent Dilfer as a head coach.
North Texas' First Conference Game As An AAC Member
In the aforementioned contest against Navy, the North Texas Mean Green played their first conference game in the league. UNT will play their first home AAC game this Saturday against Temple.
UTSA's First AAC Win
Not only was Saturday UTSA's first conference game as a member of the American Athletic Conference, it was also their first AAC win and their first-ever game against new conference mate Temple.
After securing the 49-34 win in Philadelphia, UTSA now prepare for a matchup with fellow conference newcomer UAB at the Alamodome on October 14.
Rice's Loss To UConn even had a First
Rice won their first conference game against East Carolina earlier this season, but Saturday's big story in Houston centered around their opponent.
Jim Mora's Connecticut Huskies who won their first game of the season on Saturday by defeating the Rice Owls 38-31 in Houston. This ended a seven-game losing streak for the Huskies, dating back to last season.
