One of the biggest college football stories of the offseason was former Florida Gators running back Trevor Etienne's decision to enter the transfer portal.
Etienne, who is the younger brother of former Clemson Tigers running back Travis Etienne, entered the portal after rushing for 753 yards and eight touchdowns as a sophomore.
After spending a little over two weeks in the transfer portal, Etienne landed at Georgia, the Gators' biggest rival.
The former four-star recruit recently joined the the Real Talk Podcast (which is hosted by Bulldogs offensive lineman Tate Ratledge) and he detailed why he decided to leave Gainesville for Athens.
"For me it was like, does the good outweigh the bad," explained Etienne.
"You know, I've been with Florida for two years. I went through that whole process of rebuilding [and] it was kind of still rebuilding. And I felt like there were a lot of uncertainties. A lot of questions were unanswered. There was a lot of unknown going on."
"I felt like I can stay here (at Florida) and do what I've been doing for another year or two, or bet on myself and take a chance somewhere else," added Etienne. "So pretty much, to sum it up, it was like I could either be running back two on a losing team -- I want to play in December, too, that also played a big a big part in me transferring -- so I can stay and be running back two on a losing team or go somewhere and possibly be running back one and win a natty."
Yikes. That's gotta hurt to hear if you're a Florida fan. There already isn't much faith in Gators head coach Billy Napier entering the 2024 season (he's squarely on the hot seat). Hearing a former Florida player call the Gators a "losing team" doesn't exactly inspire faith that UF is going to turn things around under Napier this fall.
It definitely feels like Florida will be embarking on another coaching search in December while Etienne is likely playing for a championship at Georgia.
