Former All-Pro OT Mitchell Schwartz announces retirement

For the first seven seasons of his NFL career from 2012 to 2018, Mitchell Schwartz didn't miss a single snap on offense. After playing his final down during the 2020 season, the offensive tackle has decided to officially hang up his cleats.

Schwartz was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and stuck with the team for four seasons. He signed a five-year, $33 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs in March 2016 and spent the final five years of his career with the club.

A former California Golden Bear, Schwartz picked up Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2016, 2017 and 2019 with Kansas City and his lone First-Team honor in 2018. He played and started in all 128 regular-season games with the Browns and Chiefs from 2012 to 2019 — plus an additional seven playoff contests with Kansas City from 2016 to 2019 — and earned a championship ring when the Chiefs took down the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIV.

Schwartz was limited to six games in 2020 due to a back injury and was released by Kansas City in March 2021.
