Former All-Pro RB attempting comeback three years since last game

Former Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen is attempting a comeback three years since his last NFL game.

The former fourth-round pick played 51 games (making 22 starts) over three-plus seasons with the Bears from 2017-2020, putting together a Pro Bowl campaign in 2018. Cohen also made First-Team All-Pro that year, posting career highs in rushing attempts (99), rushing yards (444), rushing touchdowns (three), receiving yards (725) and other categories.

"The Human Joystick" paced Chicago that season in receptions (71) and yards from scrimmage (career-high 1,169), while scoring eight touchdowns as well (five through the air). Cohen added 33 punt returns for 411 yards, both of which led the NFL and ended the campaign with 1,599 all-purpose yards.

He suffered the season-ending ACL injury in Week 3 of the 2020 season, which was his last NFL contest.

After not being able to pass a physical in March 2022, he was released by the Bears with an injury designation.

The 28-year-old went down with a torn Achilles tendon during a livestreamed training session on Instagram in May 2022, again delaying his progress.

With promising third-year pro Khalil Herbert -- as well as D'Onta Foreman coming off of a career season -- in the backfield (not to mention one of the best rushing quarterbacks in Justin Fields), Chicago appears set with their running game. As Cohen is still on the right side of 30 though, if he can prove to another team that he's fully healthy, he may get a chance at returning to the gridiron this fall.
