Former All-Pro RB Chris Johnson seemingly responds to murder-for-hire allegation
Former Tennessee Titans, New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals running back Chris Johnson has apparently responded to an allegation he was involved in a murder-for-hire plot.
Early Thursday morning, TMZ Sports published a story alleging Johnson funded shootings that resulted in the deaths of two male victims. Per TMZ, the 34-year-old former NFL star was the victim of a March 2015 gang-related shooting that killed his friend and left him with a shoulder wound. Between January and July 2016, an alleged gang member named Dominic Bolden reportedly shot and killed two different individuals.
According to a court document obtained by TMZ, Johnson provided Bolden "with funds and an individual who could continually supply Dominic Bolden with as much narcotics as needed to supply the (drug trafficking operation)."
A representative for Johnson denied the allegations when speaking with TMZ. On Thursday afternoon, the one-time rushing champion and 2009 AP Offensive Player of the Year appeared to address the matter via Twitter:
No charges have been filed regarding the matter as of Thursday afternoon. The exact nature of the court documents in question was unknown as of that same time.
Johnson played in the NFL from 2008 through 2017. He famously rushed for 2,006 yards during the 2009 campaign, which led to him receiving his "CJ2K" nickname. Only five players in history have ever accumulated more yards on the ground in a single season.
Johnson is third in career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns among all Houston Oilers/Tennesse Titans players. The three-time Pro Bowl selection and one-time All-Pro retired with 9,651 NFL career rushing yards on his resume.
