Former All-Pro WR Josh Gordon reinstated, could return Week 4
Troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon, who once played like a superstar but has dealt with handfuls of personal issues throughout the last 10 years, is back.
It was reported earlier this month that the National Football League Players Association determined Gordon had completed his latest treatment program and, thus, deserved to be reinstated by the NFL. ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted Friday Gordon is being reinstated and should be eligible to play as soon as Week 4, which begins next Thursday.
Gordon was famously a First-Team All-Pro in 2013 when he tallied 87 receptions for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns but has since earned multiple suspensions for violations of the league's substance-abuse policy. He hasn't played since 2019 and was attached to the Seattle Seahawks last December when it was learned his conditional reinstatement was being rescinded after he reportedly suffered a setback in his battle with substance abuse.
The 30-year-old was released by the Seahawks in March and spent time in the Fan Controlled Football league earlier this year.
Gordon has played alongside Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady on NFL Sundays, but it's unknown if either of those organizations is willing to take a flier on somebody who isn't the playmaker he once was and who is one mere slip-up away from facing another indefinite ban.
