Former Bills Pro Bowler throws major shade at Jim Kelly

Many agreed with former Buffalo Bills quarterback Jim Kelly when he stated the team should give quarterback Josh Allen a star running back during a charity event at the end of March.

Ex-Bills running back LeSean McCoy was not one of them.

During a recent appearance on “Up and Adams,” McCoy not only appeared to disagree, but took a shot at Buffalo’s all-time leading passer for his four straight Super Bowl losses from 1990-93.

“Nobody talks about how he come up short every year,” McCoy said. “Nobody talks about that. Four times short (in the Super Bowl). You’re supposed to be this great quarterback? (You made it to the) Super Bowl — loss, loss, loss. Still losing.”

There is merit to Kelly’s original point though.

Allen has not had a 1,000-yard rusher in any of his five seasons in Buffalo. Last year’s leading rusher, Devin Singletary, has since joined the New England Patriots and the backs currently under contract in Buffalo for the coming season — James Cook, Damien Harris and Nyheim Hines — have a combined 3,803 rushing yards and 32 touchdowns between them.

The Bills have not fielded a 1,000-yard rusher since McCoy himself in 2017 (1,138 yards). Though Cook showed some promise during his rookie season, the Bills are expected to add another running back before the fall campaign gets underway, either through free agency or the draft.

“They got James Cook. I think he’s going to be a phenomenal player. He’s still young. Maybe add another running back in the draft, but everyone wants to hammer on that," McCoy continued. "Really, watch the Buffalo Bills offense. They don’t try to run the ball. They’d rather run the ball with Josh Allen than the running backs.”
