The Arizona Cardinals play each NFC West team twice a season, and will soon go to battle with a familiar face who led their team in the first half of last season.

Stated by his agent Mike McCartney, he congratulated – while also breaking the news at the same time – that quarterback Josh Dobbs is going to be a San Francisco 49er.

“Congrats Josh Dobbs agreeing to a one-year deal with the 49ers,” McCartney said.

With starting quarterback Kyler Murray enduring a major ACL injury, Dobbs was traded to Arizona from the Cleveland Browns to fill the void.

Dobbs started in all eight games for Arizona, and went 1-7 last season with him under center. The 29-year-old threw five touchdowns, three interceptions and completed 167 passes for 1569 yards.

But with the inevitable return of Murray and the emergence of rookie Clayton Tune, Dobbs’ days in Arizona were numbered.

To end his short stint in the Valley, Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick were both sent to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2024 sixth-round pick last Halloween (Oct. 31).

In Minnesota, “The Passtronaut” immediately started as Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles injury. As games went by, Dobbs would soon lose the No. 1 QB job in favor of Jaren Hall and Nick Mullens.

Through five games, Dobbs completed 95-of-151 passing attempts for 895 yards and connected on five touchdowns.

With San Francisco, Dobbs will now back up Queen Creek native and Perry High School alum Brock Purdy on the 49ers.

This will be Dobbs’ eighth team that he has played for. Previously, he has suited up for the Cardinals, Vikings, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Detroit Lions.
