Former Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez not running for House of Representatives reelection
Former Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez announced Thursday he won't be running for reelection in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Gonzalez, a Republican who has represented Ohio's 16th congressional district since 2019, announced his decision via Twitter.
Gonzalez was one of only 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump after the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol. The vote led Gonzalez to get censured by the Ohio Republican Party Central Committee.
The 36-year-old called Trump a "cancer for the country" in an interview with the Jonathan Martin of The New York Times and said he'll do whatever he can to make sure the businessman never returns to the presidency.
Gonzalez played five seasons with the Colts from 2007-11, catching 99 passes for 1,307 yards and seven touchdowns in 40 games. Indy selected him in the first round of the 2007 draft.
After his playing career, Gonzalez received his master's degree in business administration from Stanford before going into politics.
