Former Dolphins, Jets HC Adam Gase reportedly a candidate for Patriots OC job

When the Las Vegas Raiders hired Josh McDaniels as their next head coach, it left a void at the New England Patriots offensive coordinator post for the first time in 10 years. Now, there are at least a couple of notable names that NFL Network's Mike Giardi has been hearing that could be in the mix to take over the role.

Gase's coaching career began with three years at LSU from 2000 to 2002, first as a graduate assistant and then as a recruiting assistant. Gase jumped into the NFL ranks in 2003 with the Detroit Lions as a scouting assistant and held that role for two years before becoming an offensive assistant with the team for the 2005 and 2006 campaigns and their quarterbacks coach in 2007.

The 43-year-old then served as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers in 2008 and spent the next six years with the Denver Broncos. Gase was the Broncos' wide receivers coach in 2009 and 2010, their quarterbacks coach in 2011 and 2012 and their offensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014.

Gase was then the offensive coordinator of the Chicago Bears for one season, before landing his first head-coaching gig. Gase's first year in the AFC East was his best, as he helped the Miami Dolphins get to the playoffs in 2016 with a 10-6 record, but they fell in the wild-card round.

The Ypsilanti, Mich., native stayed as the Dolphins lead man for two more seasons, finishing his three-year run in South Beach with a 23-25 regular-season mark. He was the New York Jets head coach during the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, compiling a 9-23 record.
