Former Philadelphia Eagles safety K'Von Wallace was claimed off of waivers by the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday after Philly cut him on Tuesday, reuniting him with former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon.

He was waived as a part of roster cutdowns to get down to the final 53-man roster. It came as a surprise to some that had assumed Wallace's spot in Philadelphia was relatively safe.

The Eagles drafted him in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft out of Clemson University. In three seasons, he had recorded no sacks, no interceptions and 64 tackles.

Gannon was the defensive coordinator in Philadelphia for two seasons after being hired in 2021. After his defense gave up 31 points in Super Bowl LVII to the Kansas City Chiefs, he left his position and accepted a job as head coach of the Cardinals.

Arizona was forced to trade pick No. 66 in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Eagles for pick No. 94 and a 2024 fifth round pick after a tampering investigation into the hiring of Gannon. The Cardinals had reached out to him after the NFC Championship Game, during a time where NFL rules state that contact is not permitted.

Arizona placed a league-high six waiver claims after roster cutdowns. With star quarterback Kyler Murray out indefinitely, there's no expectation of winning for the Cardinals any time soon.

The Eagles will open up Week 1 on the road against the New England Patriots while the Cardinals will visit the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field on Sunday, Sept. 10.
