Wide receiver Bryan Edwards Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

After trading the Raiders a fifth-round pick, the Falcons placed Bryan Edwards on waivers. Now, he’s signing a free-agent deal with the Saints to join his former quarterback, Derek Carr, in New Orleans.

The 24-year-old only appeared in seven games for Atlanta last season before being placed on waivers. By all accounts, the Falcons front office botched this one.

The 2020 third-round pick recorded a whopping three catches for 15 yards during his time in Atlanta. After racking up over 570 yards in 2021, Edwards was supposed to establish a role in a thin Falcons receiving core.

Instead, Edwards saw 89 total snaps, 35 of which came in Week 1. The trade clearly didn’t work out for either side. He failed to produce at the same level that he did in Las Vegas but reunites with his former Raiders quarterback Derek Carr in the Big Easy.

His most productive season came with Carr throwing him passes in 2021, in which he hauled in 34 receptions for 571 yards and three touchdowns. The Falcons probably don’t want to see Bryan Edwards succeed with the Saints because it would inherently make it more difficult to win the division.

Best of luck to Edwards in New Orleans unless, of course, it’s against Atlanta.
