It didn’t take long for Germain Ifedi to find a new home after the Falcons cut him last week. According to NFL Network, Ifedi is signing with the Lions.

It was a somewhat surprising move by Atlanta because Ifedi was in line to assume the same role he had last season as swing tackle. Despite being a reserve player, he did appear in 17 games.

The former Chicago Bear was brought back this offseason, but he’s better suited to just stay on the right side, which had to factor in the decision to release him.

As it stands right now, former XFL tackle Barry Wesley will be competing with Tyler Vrabel, Josh Miles, and Ethan Greenidge for the swing tackle job. That’s not exactly encouraging, so don’t be surprised if the Falcons find their guy in August when all the other teams make their way down to 53 players.

Now, Germain Ifedi will have an opportunity to catch on with the Lions, who are an ascending young football team under Dan Campbell. The veteran should provide valuable experience for a relatively young offensive line.

We’ll be rooting for Germain unless, of course, it’s against the Falcons.
