Appearing on "The Pat McAfee Show," former New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez talked about the team and potential franchise quarterback Zach Wilson.

When speaking to McAfee, Sanchez compared the BYU product to another former Jets quarterback, NFL legend and Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

“I think he’s Brett Favre-ish,” Sanchez told McAfee. “He’s the kind of guy who will complete a left-handed pass at some point in his career. He might throw one around his back to the fullback. He’s that kind of guy and it is so fun to watch. But for a coordinator, you just have to know what you’re signing up for. As soon as that ball is snapped, you might not know exactly where it’s going, but there is a good chance it is going to the right spot.

“He’s not your typical five steps and hitch, rhythmic kind of guy,” Sanchez added. “He likes to throw off-platform, in some ways, I feel maybe a little too much when you might not need it. When the pocket is clean, I don’t need you to do anything special. Just give me the routine ground ball and throw it to first base and we’re good.”

This isn’t the first time Wilson has been compared to a great NFL player, as PFF’s Sam Monson also had similar praise for the young quarterback.

The comparisons aren’t as far-fetched as one may believe. Wilson is a known gunslinger. He has the ability to make nearly any throw, and coverage doesn’t deter him from doing so.

This gunslinger attitude could also lead him into trouble at the next level.

There are a few wow plays made by Wilson that may not have as fortunate an ending at the next level. Coordinators and defensive backs are far better equipped at an NFL level, and we could see some costly Favre-like turnovers Jets fans remember all too well.

Nonetheless, the comparison is glowing. Whenever a highly touted collegiate prospect is compared to a Hall of Famer, an aura starts to form whether it’s warranted or not.

Wilson has been climbing up draft rankings since the end of the season and has been connected to the New York Jets equally as long. If Wilson is able to replicate what he was able to do at BYU, then perhaps a Brett Favre comparison isn’t out of the realm of possibility.
