Former Jets safety Rontez Miles accused of assaulting woman in front of child

Former New York Jets safety Rontez Miles last played in the NFL during the 2019 season and more recently has served as a coach for the Woodland Hills High School football team in Pennsylvania.

Miles' name is in headlines for a much different reason this week.

According to Michael Blinn of the New York Post and Marcie Cipriani of Pittsburgh’s Action News 4, North Versailles (PA) police have issued an arrest warrant for Miles regarding disturbing allegations.

Per the stories, Miles, 33, broke into a North Versailles home and initially struck a man before he dragged a woman from a bed by her hair. The court papers say Miles then beat and bloodied the woman to the point that neighbors heard the incident before they were able to witness the matter because a motion light turned on.

Eventually, the woman escaped Miles and locked herself inside her 11-year-old son's bedroom, where she was able to call for help. Police later found blood throughout the home and discovered the woman had multiple visible wounds, including a swollen lip and eye, injuries to her foot and leg, and a possible broken nose.

Miles fled the scene before officers arrived and has a warrant out for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault and burglary, as well as other alleged crimes.

The safety initially entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent who appeared in a total of 54 games with the Jets from 2013 through the 2019 campaign. He recorded 123 total tackles, an interception, and two forced fumbles.
