Former NFL QB shares unique praise for Bengals' Joe Burrow

Former NFL quarterback and current analyst Chase Daniel knows Cincinnati Bengals star signal-caller Joe Burrow is a special talent.

It seems Daniel doesn't quite understand how Burrow evolved into one of the best players at the position in fewer than four full NFL seasons.

"I have no clue and that's a good thing," Daniel said about Burrow's rise during a recent appearance on "The Athletic Football Show" podcast, per Russ Heltman of FanNation's All Bengals. "I came to the realization that he does everything really well. In my opinion, there's no true weakness in his game, which just tells you the consistent level that he plays at. And I think that's probably what I'd go with is the consistency. You rarely see him have a bad game and you rarely see him make mistakes. So it's just like calm cool collected 'Joe Cool,' right? It's just a consistent level of really high-level play."

Burrow played with a lingering calf injury throughout the first half of the season but helped the Bengals earn four consecutive victories before this past Sunday's 30-27 home loss to the Houston Texans (5-4) that dropped Cincinnati to 5-4. According to ESPN stats, Burrow ended Week 10 ranked 18th in the NFL among qualified players with a 53.8 adjusted QBR on the season, and the 26-year-old tossed 14 touchdown passes to go along with six interceptions across Cincinnati's first nine games.

"A lot of times when you say consistent, they're like, 'Oh, that's a bad adjective or way to describe people,'" Daniel added about Burrow. "I love it because it's not only consistent, but it's consistent at a high level, and he just does the small things right, whether it's subtle movements in the pocket, or whether just a look off of the eye when he knows where he's going. He's got such a feel for that offense in Cincy that it just runs through him."

At least one "NFL evaluator" said last week he would take Burrow over Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson for an "all things equal, two-minute drill" situation. The Bengals fell to the Ravens 27-24 when Burrow wasn't 100% in Week 2, and 7-3 Baltimore hosts Cincinnati this coming Thursday night.

As of Tuesday afternoon, oddschecker listed Burrow's Bengals as 3.5-point underdogs against the Ravens.
