Green Bay Packers rookie tight end Luke Musgrave has been impressive thus far this season, logging 11 catches for 124 yards.

Most recently, Musgrave caught six passes for 49 yards in the Packers’ comeback win over the New Orleans Saints this past sunday.

Former NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma had high praise for Musgrave this week, saying that he thinks the youngster will be one of the best tight ends in the league in a few years, via HoggNFL.

Vilma would know a thing or two about tight ends seeing as how he spent much of his career covering them, so we should probably take his word for it.

Musgrave, who played his collegiate football at Oregon State, was selected by Green Bay in the second round of the NFL Draft back in the spring.

Funny enough, Musgrave was not overly productive throughout his collegiate career.

The 23-year-old spent four years at Oregon State, with his best season coming in 2021 when he caught 22 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown.

Throughout his entire tenure with the Beavers, Musgrave totaled 47 receptions for 633 yards and a pair of scores. Those aren’t exactly the numbers you would expect from an elite tight end prospect.

However, scouts loved Musgrave’s raw physical gifts and athletic ability. Thus far, it appears to be panning out for the Packers, who took a risk drafting him in the second round.

Luke Musgrave is already establishing himself as a key piece in a Green Bay aerial attack that is in search of direction. The Packers don’t have any proven top-end receiving talent on their roster, and No. 1 wide out Christian Watson has missed the first three weeks due to a hamstring injury.

Green Bay is 2-1 and will take on the Detroit Lions in an NFC North showdown on Thursday night.
