The Green Bay Packers caused a stir in the offseason with their moves in free agency.

They made significant signings, including Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney, securing them to lucrative, lengthy contracts. However, they also bid farewell to notable veterans such as De’Vondre Campbell, David Bakhtiari and Aaron Jones.

Particularly contentious was the decision to part ways with Jones, a franchise icon, in favor of acquiring Josh Jacobs.

This move drew criticism from both the media and the fanbase, with many questioning the rationale behind it. Todd Gurley, a respected figure in the league with impressive accolades, joined the chorus of voices expressing confusion over the Packers’ running back situation.

“Other than Jordan Love, Aaron Jones was literally their best and only offensive option.”

Gurley emphasized Jones’ importance to the Packers’ offense, suggesting that he was the primary offensive weapon alongside Jordan Love. While Jones undoubtedly played a vital role in the team, labeling him as the sole offensive powerhouse is debatable.

Last season, Jones faced challenges due to injury, resulting in diminished productivity with 656 yards and two rushing touchdowns in 11 games. Given the stage of his career, managing his snaps and workload becomes crucial. It’s worth noting that other players, such as Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs, also made significant offensive contributions for the Packers and are poised to continue doing so.

The Packers’ decision to commit to a long-term deal with Jacobs carries inherent risks, as with any such signing. However, it’s imperative to base assessments on accurate facts, unlike Gurley’s assertions.

It will be interesting to see how the moves the Green Bay Packers made this offseason pan out for the franchise.
