If there is one knock against Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith, it’s his slight frame.

Smith entered the NFL at 170 pounds, which was a concern for some. Of course, it has not negatively affected Smith thus far, as he has played in all but one game over his first three seasons.

However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t trying to gain some weight.

During a recent episode of The Nightcap podcast, former NFL receiver Chad Johnson said that Smith has been bulking up this offseason and now weighs around 190 pounds.

Smith, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama, was selected by the Eagles with the 10th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed an impressive campaign, catching 64 passes for 916 yards and five touchdowns. The following year, Smith was even better, hauling in 95 receptions for 1,196 yards and seven scores.

The 25-year-old actually took a bit of a step back this past season, but he was still very good, snaring 81 balls for 1,066 yards while reaching the end zone seven times.

Smith signed a three-year, $75 million contract extension with Philadelphia earlier this month.

In Smith and A.J. Brown, Philly boasts one of the best wide receiver duos in football, and now, the club has both players locked up for the foreseeable future.

Perhaps putting on some muscle with make Smith even more effective in 2024, as it may make him more likely to break tackles and, in turn, turn plays into bigger gains.

We’ll see how things shape up for DeVonta Smith come September.
