Former NFL wide receiver and special teamer Devon Wylie has sadly passed away at the age of 35, according to Pro Football Talk.
The harrowing news was confirmed by Wylie’s alma mater, Fresno State. The wide receiver was a fourth-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs in 2012, and bounced around with a number of franchises before his football career came to an end in 2017.
“Devon Wylie, a 2012 fourth-round pick of the Chiefs who had a brief NFL career as a receiver and return man, has died at the age of 35,” Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk wrote. “Fresno State, where Wylie played his college football, confirmed that he died. No cause of death has been reported.
“Wylie was born and raised in the Sacramento area and played at Granite Bay High School before attending Fresno State.”
During his rookie season with the Chiefs, Wylie caught six passes for 53 yards. Additionally, he returned punts and kickoffs for Kansas City.
Afterwards, he spent some time with the Tennessee Titans in 2013. Then, his career featured stops with the Arizona Cardinals, Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders and Atlanta Falcons.
He also played with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League from 2016-2017.
