Former NFL WR Greg Jennings says Justin Jefferson could eclipse 2,000 yards this season

Former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings knows a thing or two about big plays. He made plenty of them when he was with the Green Bay Packers. Less so when he went to the Minnesota Vikings and later the Miami Dolphins, but he certainly had a career that many wideouts across the league would love to have.

Jennings, like many players, is now providing analysis on the game he once dominated. With the league being so pass-happy right now and several elite receivers capable of putting up incredible stats, does he think any wideout in the NFL right now could put up 2,000 yards this season?

Cooper Kupp came close last season with 1,947 yards and 16 touchdowns to his name. It was one of the best single-season performances ever by a wide receiver, undoubtedly made sweeter by the fact the Los Angeles Rams walked away from 2021 with a Super Bowl win.

One would think Kupp has what it takes to eclipse 2,000. Davante Adams, now with the Las Vegas Raiders, also has the talent and elite receiving ability to do so.

As far as Jennings' thoughts are concerned, though, he thinks a 2,000-yard receiver could spring from one of his former teams: The Minnesota Vikings.

"If there was a receiver that was to eclipse that 2,000-yard season, I do believe it would be a player like Justin Jefferson," Jennings wrote on the33rdteam.com. "He is so electric when he gets the ball in his hands. He’s such a deep threat, and he catches almost anything and everything you throw in his direction.

"That is what it would have to take — a big-play individual, someone that can break away on the short pass and get behind the defenders on a deep pass," Jennings continued. "It would have to be a receiver that is a true focal point of what you’re trying to get done offensively."

Even with Adam Thielen and Dalvin Cook also on the offensive unit, Jefferson is undoubtedly one of the 10 or so wide receivers in the league that can be considered a "true focal point", as Jennings put it.

Can Minnesota's offense, led by Kirk Cousins and first-year head coach Kevin O'Connell, provide Jefferson with 2,000 yards worth of opportunities, though?

That will really be the question, because otherwise, Jefferson does have the talent.

Jefferson caught 108 passes for 1,616 yards and 10 touchdowns last season for the Vikings.
