Mason Crosby Dan Powers-USA TODAY Sports

At 39 years old, Mason Crosby is officially a starting kicker again.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported Friday that the New York Giants are signing Crosby to their practice squad, adding that Crosby is expected to be elevated to the active roster in short order and kick for the Giants on Christmas Day against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The move comes with the Giants in very dire straits at the kicker position. Graham Gano opened the year as the team's starter before landing on injured reserve in early November with a knee injury. Randy Bullock was then tabbed as the replacement, but he too is now on IR with a hamstring issue. Cade York was expected to be the next man up, but he reportedly aggravated a leg injury in practice this week and is now going on practice-squad IR himself.

Crosby, who would be the Plan D for the Giants, spent 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, won Super Bowl XLV as their starting kicker. He left the franchise after the 2022 season as their all-time leading scorer. While Crosby has yet to appear in game during the 2023 campaign, he was recently on the practice squad of a different NFC team and will now serve as the emergency pivot for the 5-9 Giants.
