The Carolina Panthers moved on from two of its recent draft picks earlier this week, releasing 2021 sixth-round WR Shi Smith and waiving 2022 third-rounder, QB Matt Corral.

The organization was hopeful that Corral would clear waivers, having the intention of signing him back to the practice squad. Unfortunately, the New England Patriots claimed him.

Now, the Patriots are interested in Smith, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN. The team recently worked out the former Panther receiver along with Cody Chrest, an undrafted free agent out of Sam Houston State. Chrest has already spent time with the Indianapolis Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Green Bay Packers this offseason.

Smith recorded 28 catches for 400 yards and a pair of touchdowns during his time in Carolina.
