Former player, analyst believes Ravens should trade for former first-round RB

Although the Ravens (3-2) have somewhat underperformed to begin the season, they still have one of the more talented rosters in the league. However, former NFL LB and CBS Sports analyst Bart Scott thinks Baltimore should make one more big move with the Oct. 31st trade deadline nearing.

"I think they should call Big Blue and say, 'I'll take Saquon [Barkley] for a second-round draft pick,'" Scott said on ESPN's "Get Up." "I think this would be equivalent to what happened last year when you talk about San Francisco trading for [Christian] McCaffrey."

If the Ravens were to acquire Barkley, the No. 2 overall pick in 2018, and he was to play anything like McCaffrey, they should run to the phone now. McCaffery has scored 18 touchdowns in 16 games since joining the 49ers.

Barkley would certainly bring that type of upside to Baltimore with 6,224 yards and 39 touchdowns in his six-year career, which is what the team needs after losing RB J.K. Dobbins to a season-ending injury in Week 1.

It was Dobbins' second season-ending injury of his NFL career, which may have the Ravens worried about keeping him past 2023. Baltimore traded its second-round pick for LB Roquan Smith last season, and it worked out great. Barkley could be the latest example.

The 26-year-old is playing on a one-year deal in 2023 and surely wants to be paid. Scott believes the Ravens are willing to do just that.

"They were already in contract negotiations with J.K. Dobbins for a long-term deal. So that means they're willing to pay the money for the position," Scott added. "Trade for Saquon Barkley and I think that puts fear in Kansas City and Cincinnati."

Of course, the Giants would have to be willing to trade Barkley, but if they are, Baltimore should go all in with aspirations of hoisting a Vince Lombardi Trophy by season's end.
