Former Pro Bowl RB joins Ravens on one-year deal

The Baltimore Ravens and 30-year-old running back Melvin Gordon III agreed to a one-year, $3.1 million deal on Friday per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The Denver Broncos released Gordon III in November after 10 games plagued by ball security issues, with five fumbles in 10 games. Gordon III's production was also down as he averaged his lowest yards per carry (3.5) since his rookie year in 2015 with the Chargers.

Despite a disappointing 2022 campaign, Gordon III has been an effective running back over the course of his eight-year career, with almost 6,500 career rushing yards and 55 rushing touchdowns in 108 games. He joins a RB headlined J.K. Dobbins who has flashed explosive ability when not shelved with injury.

Gordon III will be there to battle with Gus Edwards for the second spot on the depth chart, but also to provide leadership alongside another newly acquired veteran in Baltimore. In April, the Ravens signed former Pro Bowler Odell Beckham Jr. to a one-year contract worth up to $18 million per Sports Illustrated.

OBJ missed all of 2022 after tearing his ACL during the Los Angeles Rams Super Bowl LVI victory over the Cincinnati Bengals but had experienced a bit of a resurgence with five touchdowns in eight games with Los Angeles after his falling out with the Cleveland Browns.

The Ravens are clearly looking to surround franchise quarterback Lamar Jackson with a versatile set of weapons to compete with Joe Burrow and Deshaun Watson in the AFC North after a 10-7 finish in 2022.
