Former Pro Bowl RB Phillip Lindsay thankful Broncos let him hit free agency

Back at the start of the new NFL year on March 17, it appeared that running back Phillip Lindsay would remain with the Denver Broncos after Denver placed a right of first refusal restricted free agent tender on the 26-year-old ball-carrier.

However, Denver ultimately rescinded the tender and allowed Lindsay to hit free agency. He signed a one-year "prove it" contract with the Houston Texans and is set to compete for touches with new backfield mates Mark Ingram and David Johnson.

As Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk noted, Lindsay expressed his gratitude to the Broncos for allowing him to take the latest step of his career during an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

"[It] definitely was a whirlwind of things, different points of views on certain things, but in the end, everything worked out how it’s supposed to work out," Lindsay said. "I’m a full believer in that. Nothing but respect for George [Paton]. I think that he’s going to be a great G.M. there in Denver. I think what he did for me was he was able to let me go. When I was pretty much stuck on the tender, it was harder for teams to come get me, because they were nervous they were going to be matched. When we came to a mutual agreement, it helped me find a different destination that was going to fit me better at this moment in my career."

Lindsay, a Pro Bowler in 2018, tallied 502 rushing yards and one touchdown on 118 carries with Denver last season.
