Former Pro Bowl WR 'available' less than two weeks following retirement
DeSean Jackson retired as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in late November.
During an appearance on Kay Adams' "Up and Adams" podcast Monday, the former Pro Bowl wide receiver struck a very different tone regarding his future, saying he's "available."
"I dunno, I'm available, and I can still play. I'm here," Jackson said.
The podcast host asked if Jackson would go to the Kansas City Chiefs.
"Is your shirt white? Is the sweater that you have on white?" Jackson sarcastically asked, hinting that his answer is a clear yes.
Head coach Andy Reid's Chiefs have lost back-to-back games and are now 8-5, just one game ahead of the red-hot Denver Broncos (7-6) in the AFC West. One of the criticisms of the team this season has been its lack of depth at wide receiver.
Tight end Travis Kelce is still quarterback Patrick Mahomes' favorite and best offensive weapon, though rookie wideout Rashee Rice has come on as a solid second option. He ranks second behind Kelce in targets (75), receptions (59) and receiving yards (663), while pacing the team in receiving scores as well (six).
No other player has more than 40 targets, and no other wide receiver has more than 25 catches.
Much-criticized third-year receiver Kadarius Toney is in a heap of controversy following Kansas City's Week 14 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday after lining up offsides prior to a would-be go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Jackson told Adams that he and Reid still talk "pretty often," so the ball is in the 65-year-old's court.
Jackson played the first five seasons of his career under Reid from 2008-12 in Philadelphia.
