Former Ravens safety DeShon Elliott joins Lions on one-year deal

Earlier on Wednesday, Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk explained that former Baltimore Ravens safety DeShon Elliott spent time with the Detroit Lions midway through the workweek.

Detroit didn't let the 24-year-old leave without putting pen to paper on a deal.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported in the early evening hours that Elliott is signing a one-year contract to join the Lions. League insider Josina Anderson provided more information about the agreement:

Elliott entered the NFL when the Ravens selected him in the sixth round of the 2018 draft, but he landed on injured reserve in August of what should've been his rookie year due to a fractured forearm. He appeared in six games the subsequent season before he was sidelined with a knee injury but made 16 starts during the 2020 campaign and tallied 80 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and four pass breakups.

However, the injury bug bit Elliott again last November when he became one of the handful of Baltimore players who went down. In his case, a torn biceps/pectoral injury cost him the second half of the season.

Baltimore head coach John Harbaugh vowed "to turn over every stone" this offseason to remedy his club's well-noted injury issues, but Detroit will be hoping a change of scenery does wonders for who could become quite a value signing. However, it's undeniably concerning that Elliott has thus far appeared in just 28 regular-season games since the summer of 2018.
