The Seattle Seahawks loved Richard Sherman for his defensive contributions as a cornerstone of the Legion of Boom. He was an unstoppable defensive back who helped bring a Super Bowl title to the city of Seattle.

Life after football has been mostly kind to Sherman. However, he could not avoid controversy as he found himself involved in a legal scuffle after his recent DUI charge.

Seattle Seahawks’ Richard Sherman pays $5,000 bail after being arrested for DUI charges

The Associated Press covered the incident surrounding Sherman and the minute details behind his arrest and bail:

Sherman was pulled over just before 2 a.m. Saturday for driving 79 mph (127 km/h) in a 60 mph (97 km/h) zone on Interstate 405 south of Seattle, Washington State Patrol Trooper Jordan Hazzard-Thomas wrote in a probable cause statement. His eyes were bloodshot and watery, he smelled of intoxicants, and he declined to take a breath test, Hazzard-Thomas wrote.

After spending the weekend in the King County Jail in Seattle, Sherman waived his right to appear at a bail hearing Monday. His bail was set at $5,000, and his attorney, Jon Scott Fox, said he expected Sherman to be processed and released quickly.

Fox otherwise declined to comment on the arrest, saying it was too early to say anything else.

It’s quite a shocking development for Sherman, who has built himself a post-playing career in sports media by following in Pat McAfee’s footsteps and building his podcast. For him to suffer a blunder like this would not only affect his media career but also his reputation among Seattle fans and the greater NFL fanbase in general.

This hit on his reputation would be a shame as he was one of the greatest defensive backs the Seattle Seahawks have seen over the past decade.

During the seven years he played for the Seahawks, he made 280 solo tackles, 32 interceptions, five forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries, and a sack. He was also a five-time Pro Bowler and a three-time First-Team All-Pro DB.
