Former star WR calls for Steelers to make coaching change
The Steelers found a way to sneak out another win in Week 16, but their offense struggled for the majority of the game once again. Are offensive coordinator Matt Canada's days numbered?
NFL Network analyst Steve Smith Sr. hopes they are for the sake of Pittsburgh's future.
"Mike Tomlin, he's a fantastic coach, but I think offensively, they're held back a little bit. Matt Canada ... he leaves a lot to be desired," Smith Sr. said on "The Pat McAfee Show."
The Steelers offense is the fourth worst in points per game (17.6), and Canada has just two games left to make his case to stick around in Pittsburgh. It doesn't look likely, especially with Pittsburgh's playoff chances now sitting at a measly 1%.
The Steelers have struggled to finish drives and showcase their young talent, making fans question the play calling week in and week out.
"You have so many good players on your team," Smith Sr. added. "And yet, you're offense for 57 minutes looks very pedestrian."
Eleven of the Steelers' 15 games thus far have been decided by eight or less points. Pittsburgh is 1-3 in the other four matchups decided by more than eight points.
"You don't want to always go down to the wire. That's heart attack football," Smith Sr. said. "I just want to watch a game and know that this team is going to show up."
