Former Steelers, Cardinals OT Marcus Gilbert announces retirement

Veteran offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert hasn't played in the NFL since the 2018 season and announced on Monday that he's retiring:

Gilbert, who turned 33 in February, first entered the NFL when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the second round of the 2011 draft, and he spent eight seasons with that organization. In total, he started 87 of 88 games at right tackle for the Steelers.

Pittsburgh traded Gilbert to the Arizona Cardinals in March 2019, but he missed the subsequent campaign with a torn ACL. He re-signed with Arizona in 2020 but opted out of playing due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Cardinals' website, Gilbert's one-year contract for last season rolled over to 2021.
