Former Steelers star WR still drawing interest nearly six years since last game

Wide receiver Martavis Bryant was released by the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday but is reportedly still being considered by other teams.

Bryant signed with the Cowboys in November but didn't appear in any games. The former member of the then-Oakland Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers hasn't played in an NFL contest in five-and-a-half years.

The 32-year-old Bryant was selected by the Steelers in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and finished second on the team with what is still a career-high eight touchdown receptions that season. Bryant's eight scores came despite playing in only 10 games and ranking fifth in targets (48), receptions (26) and receiving yards (549).

The Clemson product was suspended four games in 2015 for violating the league's substance abuse policy but still finished with arguably his best numbers in 11 games (five starts). Bryant finished that year with career bests in targets (92), receptions (50) and receiving yards (765) while adding six touchdown receptions and five carries for 37 yards and a score on the ground as well.

He was Pittsburgh's second-ranked player in targets, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, only behind All-Pro Antonio Brown.

Bryant was suspended again for the entire 2016 campaign for another violation. After a solid 2017 season with Pittsburgh, he was traded to Oakland in 2018. He played eight games with the Raiders before being suspended indefinitely due to another violation of the substance abuse policy.

Bryant's last game came in Week 10 of the 2018 season while with Oakland.

He then bounced around in the CFL from 2021-23 and played with the Vegas Vipers of the XFL as well.

Bryant was reinstated in November and signed to the Cowboys practice less than one week later.
