NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans cut Taylor Lewan earlier in the offseason in order to save money on the salary cap. The move was expected and needed, but it is still possible the Titans could bring Lewan back on a reduced rate to continue his Titans’ career. Seems like Tennessee isn’t the only place Lewan would be interested in playing though.

On a recent episode of Lewan’s podcast “Bussin’ with the Boys” Lewan repeatedly said, “I know the Bengals need a left tackle.”

Lewan repeated the phrase three times with a coy look on his face. It is fair to assume that Lewan would have interest in blocking for star quarterback Joe Burrow. While that may be the case, would the Bengals have interest in Lewan?

The reality is the Bengals would have to deal with the same issues that led to the Titans releasing Lewan. Lewan has played 20 games in the last three seasons and was just released with a failed physical.

Lewan has not been able to consistently stay healthy for quite some time. That may be too risky for Cincinnati who can’t afford to have poor offensive line play end their season for a third straight year.

Interestingly enough, there is a question as to whether Lewan’s comment is even true. Yes, the Bengals could use some more offensive line help, but they have current left tackle Jonah Williams set to return. Maybe they move Williams to open a spot for Lewan, but worth mentioning that Lewan has never played anywhere other than left tackle throughout his NFL career.

Lewan may have a few teams give him a call and maybe he does play on a cheap deal with a new team, but the odds are still in favor of Lewan retiring. If he decides to keep playing though, clearly the Bengals would be a team he would be happy to play for. At this point, it is all about who wants to take the risk of signing him with his recent health issues.
