Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins meeting with Steelers after visit with Panthers

2019 first-round pick Dwayne Haskins is currently making the rounds. He is reportedly scheduled to meet with the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday after meeting with the Carolina Panthers earlier this week. Haskins is attempting to land on a team for next season after he was released by the Washington Football Team.

Haskins began the season as Washington's starter but was benched after four weeks. Head coach Ron Rivera and the rest of the coaching staff were reportedly underwhelmed by the former Ohio State QB's work ethic. Haskins was briefly the starter again after Alex Smith was ruled out in Washington's game against the Seattle Seahawks, but he wasted the opportunity by attending a strip club without a mask after the game. Shortly after photos emerged of Haskins at the club, he was released by the team.

Now, Haskins' best shot at getting his NFL career back on track is taking on a backup role, which is why Carolina and Pittsburgh could both make sense as destinations for him. For the Panthers, he could prove to be a serviceable backup to Teddy Bridgewater, especially since Bridgewater has a history of missing time due to injury. As for the Steelers, whether or not they have Ben Roethlisberger next season, they could certainly use an upgrade at backup quarterback over Mason Rudolph.

Washington has its own questions to answer regarding its quarterback situation. Smith played adequately as the starter, but the team may want to give Taylor Heinicke a shot under center after his impressive performance in the playoffs.
