Frank Gore to sign one-day contract, retire with 49ers

Five-time Pro Bowl running back Frank Gore plans to sign a one-day contract with the San Francisco 49ers and hopes he can take a position in the team's front office after his retirement.

"We're still trying to figure out when I'm going to do my one-day contract, to sign, do my retirement," Gore said in an interview with TheSFNiners. "I told [49ers owner] Jed York I always want to be a Niner. So we working on that right now.

"Then we're also going to sit down with me and my agent and talk about me working in the front office. I love looking at talent and I love evaluating talent and I love ball. They know that I know football players, what it's supposed to take to be a football player."

Gore, 38, spent the first 10 seasons of his NFL career with the 49ers before finishing it with stints with the Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and New York Jets. In 16 seasons, Gore finished with exactly 16,000 rushing yards, third most in NFL history behind only Emmitt Smith and Walter Payton.

Gore's 81 career rushing touchdowns are tied with Otis Anderson for 19th most all-time.
