Frank Reich wants Philip Rivers to be Colts starting QB in 2021

Veteran quarterback Philip Rivers had a bounce-back season with the Indianapolis Colts in 2020. However, the 39-year-old is undecided about continuing to play in 2021 after a tough playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills on Saturday.

Despite Rivers being undecided about his future, Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters Sunday that he'd like the eight-time Pro Bowler to be Indianapolis' starting quarterback in 2021.

"As I sit here right now, yes, I want Philip Rivers to be my starting quarterback next year," Reich said, according to ESPN's Mike Wells. "... I think Philip still has a lot of good football (left)."

The Colts signed Rivers to a one-year, $25 million deal in March after he spent the first 16 seasons of his career with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers.

In his first season with Indy, Rivers led the Colts to an 11-5 record while completing 68% of his passes for 4,169 yards and 24 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. His play helped propel the Colts into the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

The Colts have some uncertainty at quarterback this offseason. Rivers will be a free agent, as will backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The only QB Indianapolis has under contract for 2021 is rookie Jacob Eason.

If Rivers doesn't return, it seems likely that the Colts will do everything possible to hold onto Brissett. However, he's expected to draw plenty of interest this offseason with several teams looking for a quarterback.
