Free-agent RB set to join another Super Bowl contender

The Buffalo Bills are planning to sign running back Leonard Fournette, as first reported by Bleacher Report's Jordan Schultz.

Fournette was initially scheduled to visit with the Bills in mid-October, before those plans were cancelled.

The 28-year-old spent the past three seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but was let go at the end of February.

FournetteĀ appeared in a career-high 16 games last year (nine starts) and had his most rushing attempts (189) since 2019 but recorded only 668 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on 3.5 yards per carry. While his three-year stay in Tampa Bay ended in disappointment and underperformance, the former No. 4 overall pick is remembered by Bucs fans for helping lead the team in their Super Bowl LV title.

Fournette's efforts that winter earned him the nickname "Playoff Lenny."

He met with other teams over the offseason and earlier this fall, including one of Buffalo's division rivals, the New England Patriots.

The LSU product is set to join a running backs room in Buffalo that includes 2022 second-round pick James Cook and 10th-year journeyman Latavius Murray. The Bills placed running back Damien Harris on injured reserve with a neck sprain on Oct. 20 after he went down early in the team's Week 6 victory over the New York Giants.

Harris had been sharing snaps with Murray behind Cook, who's started five of Buffalo's eight contests in 2023.

Cook leads the Bills in rushing attempts (102), rushing yards (486) and rushing first downs (26) while adding 18 receptions for 192 receiving yards and one score through the air, but has only one rushing touchdown.
