Gardner Minshew has been “the guy” in Jacksonville over the past two seasons, but the team recently acquired a young generational talent, and the incumbent might soon be out of the starting quarterback job.

The Jaguars selected Trevor Lawrence with the first overall pick in the 2021 draft, and it’s only a matter of time until he’ll be starting under center. It does make sense to have Minshew start in Week 1, but don’t be surprised if Lawrence takes the reins at some point this season. Having a prolific arm talent such as him on a rookie contract is a situation many dream of.

But it sure doesn’t look like Minshew is going to just willingly give up the starting job. Training camp hasn’t even opened yet, and he already addressed the quarterback competition, with a hilarious on-brand quote.

“In preparation for the competition, I haven’t taken a s— in weeks,” Minshew said on the “Green Light with Chris Long” podcast. “Because No. 2 is not an option for me. No. 2 is not an option, I will tell you that. I feel like anybody that comes in and thinks that is an option, that is what they are going to get.”

It looks like Minshew is well aware of his job status going forward.
