Geno Smith admits having ‘everything to prove’ to the new Seahawks coaching staff

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is all set to prove his worth to the newly appointed coaching management of the Seattle Seahawks. The team went through a massive restructuring after they sacked Pete Carroll after 14 seasons.

With the sacking of Pete Carroll, multiple speculations made their foray that the team would trade Geno Smith. Those speculations were all over after the team went on to sign Sam Howell, the former Washington Commanders’ quarterback.

However, it became clear soon that the new management would keep his faith in Geno Smith. The new head coach Mike Macdonald and General Manager John Schneider confirmed that the team would play Smith in the coming time. The quarterback’s position in the team remained in the driver’s seat even through the restructuring process.

Smith was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the year 2019. In his first year, the QB did not get much opportunity to showcase. He had a rather average second season as well. But the real threat from Smith took force in the 2022 season where he scored 30 touchdowns for more than 4,000 yards against 11 interceptions. Last season, the quarterback managed to get 3,624 yards against 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions. However, the team failed to make it to the playoffs last season.

The Seahawks restructured the contract of Geno Smith

Geno Smith received the confirmation of his staying at the Seahawks when the team started working on his contract. They did it by saving some cap space in the team. The team turned his $9.6 million roster bonus into a signing bonus, creating a cap space of $4.8 million in the team.

The details of the contract revealed that Smith’s salary cap would touch $38 million in 2025. The quarterback completed the first year of his lucrative $75 million deal. After his blowout season in 2022, the team offered him a staggering contract.
