Colin Kaepernick has been linked as a possible option for the New York Giants to pick up as the team deals with multiple injuries at quarterback. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor was taken to the hospital for a rib injury he suffered in the Giants' loss to the New York Jets Sunday.

Taylor was playing because Daniel Jones was out with a neck injury. The Giants think Jones might be able to return in Week 9 to play the Las Vegas Raiders. But given the nature of Jones’ injury being his neck, the situation could change before Sunday.

Kaepernick floated as possible New York Giants fit

The Giants should be looking for quarterback depth this week. Dan Benton with USA Today thinks the Giants should sign Kaepernick:

“Some may scoff at this but Colin Kaepernick still maintains that he’d like to play in the NFL — ideally as a starter. He claims to be practicing every day and just waiting for that phone to ring, so why not?

"The Giants wouldn’t allow DeVito to throw on Sunday and if they’re down and out that bad, could Kap really be worse?

"The 35-year-old Kaepernick hasn’t thrown an NFL pass since 2016 but can beggars really be choosers?”

Kaepernick is still interested in playing in the NFL. The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback asked the Jets to give him a chance via the practice squad after Aaron Rodgers’ injury, but his request went unanswered.

It would be unlikely for Kaepernick to join the Giants this season. The Giants don’t have a prayer of making the postseason. It's doubtful the Giants would risk potential negative publicity by bringing in Kaepernick with no chance of winning a championship.
